MARTIN WINS GATORADE GEORGIA BASEBALL PLAYER
OF YEAR May 29, 2008
Ethan Martin is the Gatorade Georgia Baseball Player of the
Year. That announcement was made in a press release issued Wednesday. The
announcement comes from Gatorade and RISE magazine. Martin entered the state AAA
baseball semifinals with a 11-1 record and an earned run average of 0.99. He
also pitched Game One in the semi-finals, earning a no-decision.
Ethan also has a 3.51 GPA in the classroom and volunteers as
part of multiple community-service initiatives on behalf of the Fellowship of
Christian Athletes. Martin also donates time to collecting baseball and softball
equipment for underprivileged children in Cambodia. He is signed to play at
Clemson University next year. However, he is also projected as a first-round
pick in the upcoming Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
The award, recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence,
but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character
demonstrated on and off the field. Martin is now a finalist for the prestigious
Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year award to be announced in June.
Ethan and the Stephens County Indians will look to win a state title this
weekend when they travel to Cartersville. Game One is Friday at 4 p.m. AM 630
WNEG will be on the air at 3:45 p.m.
